BrandedLogoDesigns Reviews: Microsoft Unveils Its New Web Browser, “Edge”
Microsoft is probably on a mission to correct all the wrongs of its very web browser and has been actually getting better with every newly iteration of IE, and for the Windows 10 it will be going to take one leap ahead and retitling the software with the new name of Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft’s new Edge web browser for Windows 10 is going to be IE’s long-awaited replacement, with the browser designed to represent the software giant’s innovative and forward-looking approach to the future of World Wide Web.
Introducing the new browser name in the Build 2015 keynote, the new logo was showcased shortly after. Visibly taking inspiration from their former Internet Explorer design with that only-too-familiar ‘e’, with the Internet Explorer ring still in play.
Edge is considerably faster than its precursor and holds a built-in notation tool, more integration with digital assistant Cortana for providing more individualized results and actions, along with a reading mode.
Belfiore said, “for us, the name refers to the idea of being on the edge of consuming and creating,”
“It refers to the developer notion of being closest to the modern capabilities of the web”, he added.
Edge will also be able to support Chrome and Firefox extensions, enabling developers to use their favorite plug-ins to this new “edgy” browser.
Microsoft is placing big bets to Edge since they are leaving IE’s legacy name. While that old name did hold a lot of brand equity, this came with major baggage that was bearing down the browser.
